Description
The book is concerned with the status of private farmers during the collectivization of Czech agriculture in 1950s. This process is examined from the regional point of view, in small village Svatojanský Újezd situated in former Nová Paka District. Author describes methods which were used to implement the state-wide directed agricultural policy and through the fates of local farmers, deemed so-called “kulaks” or “rich peasants” by the regime, reveals the consequences of the policy of repression, which involved economic discrimination, intentional administrative obstruction, denunciations as well as judicial and police repression.
